Wisconsin Companies Among Best Places to Work
Six Wisconsin companies are among 50 nationwide honored as the best small- and medium-sized places to work in the U.S., according to a list compiled by the Great Places To Work Institute and the Society for Human Resource Management. Among the rankings of medium companies are Stark Investments, a hedge fund based in St. Francis, No. 4; Acuity Insurance, Sheboygan, No. 5; and InPro Corp., a building products manufacturer in Muskego, No. 21. Among the rankings of small companies are Badger Mining Corp., Berlin, No. 1; Runzheimer International, a professional consulting company, Rochester, No. 16; and Kahler Slater, a Milwaukee-based architectural firm, No. 20.

BIO 2006 Yields Results for Wisconsin Companies
Gov. Jim Doyle accompanied more than 300 representatives of Wisconsin's biotech industry to the four-day BIO 2006 conference, which brings together representatives from health, food, agriculture, industrial and environmental biotechnology companies.

Gov. Doyle to Help Save Ripon Foods Plant and Create 100 New Jobs
Ripon Foods, Inc. will receive $3 million in Enterprise Development Zone tax credits and a $55,000 training grant from the Department of Commerce to save its Ripon plant from closure, and instead upgrade and expand it.

Spectrum Brands to Consolidate Services & Operations
Spectrum Brands, formerly Rayovac Corporation, is consolidating its consumer home and garden unit from another state. The change will result in an additional 65 or more jobs. The company has signed a three-year lease to occupy 25,000-square-feet of space in the Greenway Building in Middleton.

Wisconsin Biotech Firm to Receive Technology Loan
EraGen Biosciences Inc. will receive a $250,000 state Technology Development Loan from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce that will help the firm with a $1 million upgrade to its manufacturing facility. The upgrade will enable it to produce a genetic screening test for Cystic Fibrosis and will ultimately create 75 new jobs.

ACS Opens Plant in New Berlin, Wisconsin
The plastics industry couldn't be doing any better. During a time when many manufacturers stagger from plant closings, the ACS Group continues to prosper by moving into a new, 190,000-square-foot flagship factory in New Berlin. ACS hopes to hire 112 new workers for the expanded plant by the end of the year.

Natural Feed Plant in Wisconsin Announces Expansion
Natural Chem Group in Stanley, Wisconsin has announced the construction of a new $105 million natural feed plant that will turn corn meal and liquids — leftovers from ethanol plants — into feed for cattle and poultry. The new facility will be constructed near the Ace Ethanol plant on the west side of the city and could be open in the third quarter of 2006.

Stem Cell Facility Puts Wisconsin at Forefront
The University of Wisconsin-Madison landed a contract for the nation's first and only stem cell bank. This reinforces Wisconsin's status as a leader in science and biotechnology.

Staples Center Planned for Beloit, Wisconsin Industrial Park
A Staples distribution center will be the newest addition in Beloit's Gateway Industrial Park, Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle announced Wednesday. The 400,000-square-foot business-to-business order fulfillment center will create more than 200 jobs, with wages averaging $11 and $13 per hour.

"This project is a great example of state and local government officials working together," Doyle said. "And we're going to continue to work together to bring others here."

Brenner Tank Begins Work on Expansion in Wisconsin 
A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held at Brenner Tank in Fond du Lac. The company, which is located at 450 Arlington Ave., was founded in 1900. Brenner manufactures transport trailers for products including food, chemicals and petroleum. The new addition will include administrative offices and eventually open the way for 20 new jobs, said company Controller Todd Schaefer.

Bucyrus International Pursues Expansion to Remain in Wisconsin
A Wisconsin welding and machining company plans to continue operation in Wisconsin and to break ground in 90 days on a $22 million expansion to its South Milwaukee campus, which will create 200 new jobs, in its Milwaukee facility.

Regulatory Changes Lure P&G Machine to Green Bay
With state assistance, including a low-interest loan for purchase of equipment and a grant to offset eligible expenses for deploying energy-efficient technology, Procter & Gamble has brought a new paper machine to Green Bay. Changes in regulatory and tax structure helped make this project possible. Mary Burke, secretary of commerce, said the state is eager to support projects that create or retain jobs.
